The 3rd Yeditepe Biennial's ‘Handicap’ project by artist Dilara Karasakız has reached its final stages in the Nuruosmaniye Mosque Cellar. The historical texture of the cellar adds both a physical and emotional dimension to work by Ms. Karasakız.

This installation, consisting of an iron cage installed in a narrow space and mirrors placed inside, offers viewers the opportunity to physically experience the feeling of being trapped in a cage. The viewers, who encounter their own reflections through mirrors, are also invited on a journey towards their essence.

‘Handicap’ by Ms. Karasakız expresses the man's questioning of his/her limits, confrontation with illusions and the effort to reach his/her essence with a strong visuality. The installation of mirrors in the venue leads the viewer to a deep inner questioning beyond a physical reflection. The narrow confines of the cage reveal the balance between freedom and restriction in a striking way.

While the historical atmosphere of the Nuruosmaniye Mosque Cellar adds a unique layer to the work, this impressive installation harmonises with the biennial's theme focusing on the relationship between history and venue. Ms. Karasakız invites art lovers to discover the limits of man and to a deep intellectual journey.

‘Handicap’, as one of the remarkable works of the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial, reveals the inner journey of the human being depending on history and venue. Spread across various venues in Istanbul, the biennial continues to offer art lovers the opportunity to experience different aspects of art.
