Ahmet Sacit Açıkgözoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1969. After completing his primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul, he graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1993. In 1995, he completed his master's degree in Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences, History of Turkish-Islamic Arts. In 2002, he received his doctorate degree from Marmara University Institute of Turkish Studies, Turkish Art programme with his thesis titled *Niche Space in Ottoman Mosques* (*Osmanlı Camisinde Mihrab Önü Mekânı*), prepared under the supervision of Prof. Selçuk Mülayim. In 2003, he was appointed as a lecturer at Sakarya University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts and in 2009 he started his duty at Marmara University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Art History.
Between 1995 and 2005, Açıkgözoğlu continued his calligraphy studies with Calligrapher Hüseyin Kutlu and also worked on writing with Prof. Ali Alparslan and Assist. Assoc. Prof. Ali Rıza Özcan. He received his paper marbling art ijazah authorisation from Sadreddin Özçimi in 2005. In 2014, he started his career as an associate professor at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts and has been working as a professor since 2018.
Açıkgözoğlu, who has been a consultant in many works restored by TİKA in the Balkans and different parts of the world, has studies on book arts, inscriptions and Ottoman architecture. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Türkiye and abroad, and has opened personal *Classical Turkish Paper Marbling* exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Pristina, Sarajevo and Budapest.
