Hülya Dönmez

Born in 1969 in Üsküdar, after completing her primary, secondary and high school education in Üsküdar, the artist took painting lessons from the painter Saadettin Çağlarca. She continued her education at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts by choosing the Illumination Department, where she took courses on the History of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts from Prof. Uğur Derman, illumination from Prof. Çiçek Derman, miniature from Dr. İnci Birol, and calligraphy from Prof. Muhittin Serin. In 1993, she received a certificate of achievement with the second ranking in the diploma project.

The artist, who started to work with Hazar Art Gallery in 1996, participated in many group exhibitions both in Türkiye and abroad and focused on illumination works on leather. In 2004, she brought Ottoman monograms to Mustafa Kaya's private collection with the series "The Heritage" (Miras). In 2005, she contributed to the cultural heritage by illuminating 40 edicts and certificates of the Ottoman period in accordance with the era.

In 2013, she received the State Artist certificate from the Ministry of Culture and opened her first solo exhibition at Taksim Cumhuriyet Museum in 2017. The artist, who gives illumination classes in Pendik Municipality, continues to produce classical illumination, stone painting and original leather works in Şemse Art Workshop. Her works can be found in collections around the world.
