Born in 1944 in Konya, the artist served as a hafiz for three years after primary school, recited Quran in Konya mosques during Ramadan and took part in Mevlüd societies. Between 1970-1980, he played the ney (end-blown flute) as a musician in Mevlâna Commemoration Ceremonies.
In 1966, while studying pharmacy in Istanbul, he became interested in calligraphy, and in 1968 he took Thuluth-Naskh lessons from Calligrapher Hamid Aytaç and Taliq lessons from Mustafa Uğur Derman and received his ijazah (authorisation). After working as a pharmacist in Konya for 10 years, he won 5 awards including the first ranking in the world within the International Calligraphy Competitions organised by IRCICA, and was also awarded first prizes and honourable mentions in the branches of Jali Diwani, Jali Taliq, Jali Thuluth and Naskh.
The artist, who participated in many exhibitions in Türkiye and abroad, prepared calligraphy writings for mosques in countries such as the USA, Australia and Germany. In 2001, he was involved in the establishment of Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts and served as the head of the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts. He has given ijazah to more than twenty students in universities and courses. He received the TBMM (The Grand National Assembly of Türkiye) Outstanding Service Award in 2010 and the Grand Prize for Culture and Arts in 2012. In 2013, he joined KTO Karatay University as a faculty member and still continues his service.
