Mustafa Parıldar

He was born in 1982 in Siverek, Şanlıurfa. He completed his primary school education at Eyyubiye Primary School and his secondary and high school education at Şanlıurfa Imam Hatip High School. In 2007, he graduated from Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, Art Major of Calligraphy. He started his writing studies with a pencil in the presence of the Holy Quran teacher and calligrapher Hacı Alp Hoca. With the guidance of his teacher, in 1995, he attended the classes of Calligrapher Mehmet Memiş, who was working at Harran University at that time, and he was entitled to receive ijazah (authorisation) from Mehmet Memiş in 2010 by learning the thuluth and naskh scripts. During his university years, he learnt Ruqah, Diwani, Jali Diwani and Taliq scripts from Calligrapher Hüseyin Öksüz.

 

After giving calligraphy lessons at KOMEK and Meram Public Education Centre in Konya for a while, he settled in Istanbul. In Istanbul, he benefited from valuable teachers such as Uğur Derman, Osman Özçay, Mehmed Özçay, Davut Bektaş and Ali Toy. He taught at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University and Bağlarbaşı İSMEK Specialisation Centre for a while. He took part in the restoration works of the inscriptions in Süleymaniye Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace. He won awards in many national and international competitions and participated in many exhibitions in Türkiye and abroad. The artist still continues to work on the art of calligraphy in Istanbul and continues to teach at the Classical Turkish Arts Foundation.
