Ömer Faruk Dere

Born in 1973 in Istanbul, the artist studied Theology (Bachelor's Degree) and Art History (Master's Degree). He completed his thesis titled "Westernisation Period Ottoman Calligraphy and the Influence of Western Art on the Tarkib Tradition" (“Batılılaşma Dönemi Osmanlı Hat Sanatı ve Terkib Geleneğinde Batı Sanatı Etkisi”) and became a doctor of art history at Istanbul University. He has spent thirty years in his artistic endeavours that he started during his faculty years. Dere, who works in the arts of calligraphy, paper marbling and calligraphy, has pieces in many collections and museums in Türkiye and abroad. 

He worked as an art history expert in two private museums. In his twenty-two years of uninterrupted art education, he has trained nearly twenty students who have become teachers. He organised exhibitions, conferences and workshops in twenty-two countries. He published nineteen books and twenty-three articles on art and art history. He presented his academic studies as papers in symposiums and congresses. The artist, who pursues his art works in his personal studio, continues to work as a lecturer in public and private institutions.
