Orhan Dağlı

He was born in 1971 in Istanbul. He completed his primary and secondary education in this city. In 1997, he graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts and received the Sakıp Sabancı Special Award. At the faculty, he received illumination education from Assist. Prof. Tahsin Aykutalp, nastaliq, diwani, jali diwani and ruqah education from Prof. Ali Alparslan, miniature education from Yakup Cem, engravin (kalemişi) education from Kaya Üçer and paper marbling education from Hikmet Barutçugil.

He received his ijazah for thuluth-naskh and illumination from Hüseyin Kutlu and Assist. Prof. Tahsin Aykutalp in 2001, and for nastaliq, diwani and jali diwani from Prof. Ali Alparslan in 2002. In 2004, he won the success award in the category of jali taliq in IRCICA International Calligraphy Competition.

In 2010-2011, he taught illumination and miniature at The World Islamic Science and Education University in Jordan and worked as chief illuminator in the King Hussein Mushaf Project.

In 2013, the artist started to work as a lecturer at Trakya University and is still working in this position. The artist, whose works are in many distinguished collections and museums in Türkiye and abroad, continues to produce works in calligraphy, illumination and miniature branches as well as teaching.
