Born in 1986 in Istanbul, Sema Yılmaz Özen graduated from Fine Arts High School. She was interested in photography and painting for a while. In 2012, she graduated from Istanbul University, Department of Glass Ceramics and Tile Works. She completed her internship at the calligraphy plates in Hagia Sophia Mosque.

She received training in the workshop of lecturer Ufuk Baş from Istanbul University in a master-apprentice relationship until the death of her teacher. Between 2013-2016, she studied at Küçükçekmece Traditional Art Academy in the tile works department and successfully completed the Tile Project Class.

In 2021, she graduated from Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics, Department of International Relations. She continues her postgraduate education at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts. The artist has participated in many group exhibitions in the fields of tile, ceramic and installation.
