The building, which has been serving under the name of Beylerbeyi Primary School since 1923, was rebuilt by Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation in 1986 in accordance with its original architecture and transferred to the Ministry of National Education due to the cracks in its walls and the danger of sliding into the sea. The Institute, which started education under the name of "Sabancı Technical Institute for Girls' Education" in 1989, was administratively and financially affiliated to the General Directorate of Lifelong Learning of the Ministry of National Education in 2012 and its name was changed to "Istanbul Beylerbeyi Sabancı Technical Institute".
Beylerbeyi Sabancı Technical Institute is a non-formal educational institution that researches our traditional arts, crafts, clothing-dressing culture and Turkish culinary culture that constitute our cultural richness, archives them by preserving their originals and hands them down to future generations with up-to-date interpretations. The Institute aims to promote our cultural heritage nationally and internationally by carrying out research, development, design, generation, promotion and marketing processes. The Institute, which ensures that trainees receive certificates by implementing education and training programmes that provide qualified workforce to the sector depending on technological developments, continues to work to pass our cultural values down to future generations in line with these objectives. In this regard, the Research and Development Department, Design and Production Department and Promotion and Marketing Department, which are the specialised departments of the Institute, carry out their activities in a coordinated manner.
